|Richard Belzer, star of NBC's canceled drama "Homicide: Life on the Street," may have jumped the gun Wednesday when he announced on NBC's "Today" that "if the network doesn't screw it up, John Munch, my character from 'Homicide,' will move to New York, become a New York detective, and be a regular on the 'Law & Order' spinoff ... and also appear on the regular 'Law & Order.' "|
Problem is, there's no deal yet for Belzer to star on either show. Dick Wolf, executive producer of "Law & Order" and the new spinoff ("Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"), quickly issued a statement saying, "I've known Richard for a long time and worked with him on the 'Law & Order'/'Homicide' crossovers.
"John Munch is a great character and I would love to continue to work with Richard, but we are currently in negotiations with NBC and Studios USA to give Munch a recurring role in the 'Law & Order' family ... Richard is optimistic, as are we, that this will happen."
