NBC has given full-season pickup orders to the new series from Dick Wolf and John Wells, the critically acclaimed new drama series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Third Watch."

"Now that we have a few episodes of each of these dramas in hand and have seen the strong premiere ratings, it's clear that they can become big hits for NBC," said NBC Entertainment President Garth Ancier. "We're glad to be in business with the outstanding creative talents behind `Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' and `Third Watch,' and we look forward to many more seasons of compelling, successful drama from them."

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," the hard-hitting companion series to NBC's successful "Law & Order," premiered on Monday, Sept. 20 (9-10 p.m. ET) as the highest rated new series on any network that night in the key adult 18-49 demographic. It built on its adult 18-49 lead-in by an impressive 32 percent and averaged a 5.4 rating and 13 share in this key demo. Overall, the drama attracted an average of 14.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched fall premiere of a new NBC Monday series since 1990.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" stars Christopher Meloni ("Runaway Bride" ) and Mariska Hargitay (NBC's "ER") as elite detectives in the New York City police department's Special Victims Unit. Dann Florek ("Law & Order"), Richard Belzer ("Homicide: Life on the Street"), Dean Winters ("Oz") and Michelle Hurd ("The Practice") also star.

"Third Watch," about a group of brave and dedicated police officers, paramedics and firefighters working the 3-11 p.m. shift in New York City, made its debut on NBC last night (10-11 p.m. ET). An estimated 31 million people viewed last night's broadcast, making "Third Watch" the most-watched new series preview or premiere on any network this season. The series moves to its regular Sunday time slot (8-9 p.m. ET) this Sunday, Sept. 26.

"Third Watch" comes from multi-award winners John Wells ("ER") and Christopher Chulack ("ER") and stars Michael Beach ("ER"), Coby Bell ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), Eddie Cibrian (NBC's "Sunset Beach"), Molly Price ("Pushing Tin" ), Kim Raver ("Trinity"), Anthony Ruivivar ("Starship Troopers" ), Skipp Sudduth ("Ronin" ) and Jason Wiles ("Beverly Hills, 90210").
